Beaverton Academy of Science and Engineering Hackathon Event

In September 2026, OSF awarded a grant to Oregon Unlocked, a student-run nonprofit led by a student at the Beaverton Academy of Science and Engineering. Oregon Unlocked works to expand STEM opportunities across the Pacific Northwest by providing high school students with hands-on experiences in technology, programming, and collaborative problem-solving.

This grant will support UnlockedHacks, a free 12-hour hackathon taking place in Portland. The event will bring together approximately 100 high school developers to design and build projects, receive feedback from professional engineers, and connect with other students who share an interest in technology. Funding will help cover venue rental, event materials, and hardware such as microcontrollers, cameras, sensors, and cables, allowing students to participate regardless of their financial circumstances.

Beyond the event itself, this funding expands access to high-quality computer science opportunities for students across Oregon, including those whose schools may not offer established programming or STEM programs. By giving students the chance to create projects, collaborate with peers, and learn directly from industry professionals, OSF’s support helps develop technical skills, confidence, and lasting connections among Oregon’s next generation of innovators.
