Ashland High School Speech and Debate

In 2026, OSF awarded a grant to the Speech and Debate Team at Ashland High School, supporting a program dedicated to developing students’ communication, research, and advocacy skills. Through competitive speech and debate events, students learn to think critically, engage with complex issues, and present their ideas clearly and professionally.

This grant helped five students attend the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Richmond, Virginia—an opportunity earned through months of rigorous preparation and competition. Funding supported essential travel costs, making it possible for qualified students to compete on a national stage regardless of financial barriers. At the tournament, students engaged with peers from across the country, gaining new perspectives, refining their skills, and bringing valuable experience back to their team.

Beyond individual achievement, this funding plays a key role in rebuilding a once-thriving program that had been disrupted during COVID-19. By supporting students’ success at the national level, OSF is helping restore a source of pride for the school and broader community, while expanding access to opportunities that foster confidence, leadership, and academic growth for future participants.
